The
VESA
bus was introduced in 1992. It was primarily developed to improve video
performance. This 32-bit four-lane bus was very popular with Windows and
OS/2 users as it speeded up the transfer of video data dramatically.
Although a vast improvement over ISA/EISA, this bus was short lived.
Because of its dependence on the 486 CPU, the bus died a quick death when
Intel introduced its Pentium processor.
